Tessera Glass Venetian Glass Mosaic Tiles

When the Byzantine craftsmen of Constantinople fled the rampaging Crusaders in the early 13th Century, plenty of them went and settled in Venice. It was here that they mastered the art of glassmaking that when a piece of glass is described as “Venetian”, it is associated with quality and beauty. Over the centuries they have virtually perfected control over the transparency and color of their glass.
While the glassmakers of Venice, since transferred to the neighboring island of Murano, wanted to keep their art to themselves, it was inevitable that it would eventually be exported. Today, the methods and procedures used by them for hundreds of years are employed worldwide. The Tessera Glass Venetian Glass Mosaic Tiles are among those produced using these processes.
This Tessera Glass collection features a glossy surface that emits a brilliant luster when illuminated. It is a through the body color glass. On the back of the tiles are ridges that help in keeping them securely bonded to the surface of walls or floors. The tiles measure ¾ of an inch square with a thickness of 1/8 inch. They are mounted on a mesh backing which are available in two sizes. A full sheet is 1.15 square feet containing 225 tiles. The smaller sheet is 1/3 of the full sheet, measuring 0.35 square feet with 75 tiles.
The tiles have a wide application. They can be installed on the floor or wall of any room, whether interior or exterior. They are perfectly suited for wet areas as bathrooms, spas, or pools as well as a kitchen sink backsplash as they are impervious to water.
There are plenty of colors and shades to choose from ranging from bright red, saffron, and yellow down to the more subdued sapphire, turquoise, and ivy. You can have your wall or floor in a single color or mix several complementary or contrasting shades according to your preferences.
